Tuscany’s Marchesi Antinori has purchased sole ownership of Col Solare, the Washington winery the two companies launched as a 50-50 partnership in 1995. The sale includes the brand, a winery and 29 acres of vines, mostly planted with Cabernet Sauvignon. Col Solare production is approximately 5,000 cases. Marchesi Antinori is a family-owned company that traces its roots back to the 14th century and it established Col Solare in 1995 as a 50-50 joint venture with Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. The two companies have worked together since then to establish the estate’s wines, building a dedicated winery and planting the estate vineyard on Red Mountain in 2006. The new acquisition comes a year after the Italian producer took on full ownership of Napa’s Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, another partnership between Antinori and Ste. Michelle Wine Estates. The sale price was not disclosed.
