As Rhode Island Craft Beer Week kicked off on March 1, Coast Guard House welcomed Narragansett Beer’s Head Brewer Lee Lord, who led a pairing dinner for guests offering tasting notes throughout. Lord is the first female to hold this role in the brand’s more than 130-year history. Narragansett Beer started in 1888 and debuted its namesake lager in 1890. Originally located on Cranston Street off Route 10, the Narragansett Brewing Company is now housed in Providence’s India Point Park, with its 18,000-square-foot waterfront brewery and taproom. The brand was famous for the advertising slogan, “Hi, Neighbor, have a ’Gansett!” The night’s “Hi Neighbor” Beer Dinner offered a five-course meal, each paired with a Narragansett brew, including Atlantic Lager, Bohemian Pilsner, Fresh Catch Citra Session Ale, Nitro Irish Stout and Temps D’Obscurité Dark Farmhouse Ale.
