Three local bartenders were highlighted during a friendly cocktail competition hosted by Dunkin’ Donuts at the Delamar in West Hartford on July 19. During the Dunkin’ Summer Shake Off event, each bartender created a batched cocktail creation featuring a new Dunkin’ item and showcased spirits. Guests enjoyed cocktail tastes with light fare from Artisan, yard games and colorful selfie stations. Bartenders went on to create their drinks live for a panel of judges as guests cheered them on. Carolyn Flaherty, Bar Manager, Elm City Social, served her cocktail, Melting in the Sun, a blend of Dunkin’ Mango Pineapple Refresher, Plantation Stiggins’ Fancy Pineapple Rum, Amaro Nonino, coconut milk, lemon juice, demerara simple syrup and basil. Rocco McNelly, Bar Manager, The Charles, served his original cocktail, a blend of Plantation Stiggins’ Fancy Smoky Formula Pineapple Rum, Moonstone Coconut Lemongrass Nigori Sake, Dunkin’ Mango Pineapple Refresher, pineapple juice, lime juice and blood orange syrup with Bittermens ’Elemakule Tiki Cocktail Bitters. The winner was Neil Robinson, Bar Manager, Krust Pizza Bar, with his cocktail, The Razzledazzle, a blend of Wild Turkey Bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, Dunkin’ Raspberry Watermelon Refresher, Fruitful Mixology Raspberry and Italicus Rosolio di Bergamotto. Robinson received a prize and his creation was named Dunkin’s Drink of the Summer. He was also featured on the “Great Day” segment on WFSB-TV Channel 3, re-creating the drink for cocktail enthusiasts at home. The winning cocktail will be featured on Krust Pizza Bar’s drinks menu.
