Grey Sail Brewing Founders Alan and Jennifer Brinton celebrated 10 years of Captain’s Daughter Double IPA.
Grey Sail Brewing celebrated the 10-year anniversary of its flagship brew, Captain’s Daughter. At 8.5% ABV and now available in 12 oz., 16 oz., 19 oz. and draft, the Double IPA features a combination of Citra and Mosaic hops, “bursting with tropical and citrus flavors and a delightfully bold hop character.” Grey Sail was founded by Alan and Jennifer Brinton in 2009, opening officially on Nov. 11, 2011. Notable across its time in operation is its status as the state’s first craft brewery to implement technology to capture CO2 emissions from its production process and reuse it on-site to carbonate its beer. In 2023, the team invested in solar panels to power the brewing operation. They also give their spent grain to local farmers for livestock feed. The team is committed to its Westerly community and local charitable organizations, frequently hosting fundraising events and volunteering. In 2020, Grey Sail launched a sister company, craft distillery South County Distillers, which produces vodka, gin, agave spirits, white rum, limoncello, whiskey and various styles of canned cocktails. The brand is distributed by McLaughlin & Moran, Inc.
