Highclere Castle Gin Hosts Cocktail Contest Winner

By October 30, 2024Connecticut, Top News

Connecticut’s Adam von Gootkin, Founder of Essex’s Highclere Castle Gin, hosted an intimate cocktail party on Sept. 19 at Highclere Castle, the setting of “Downton Abbey,” the iconic filming location. Guests included investors, partners and Connecticut contest winner Gail Fulco Tantorski, who won the trip to the UK as part of the brand’s celebration of the upcoming release of the third “Downton Abbey” film. Highclere’s Luis Coelho, in a nod to fictional butler Mr. Carson, mixed and served drinks in the grand hall. The evening showcased Highclere Castle Gin through a variety of cocktails, including a signature Lavender Lady, which featured Highclere Castle Gin, a lavender syrup handcrafted by Coelho, aquafaba and lemon juice. Another highlight was the British 75, made with gin infused with butterfly pea blossoms, giving it a striking lilac hue, complemented by a splash of lemon juice and Highclere’s own sparkling wine from the estate. The menu also included a classic Gin and Tonic garnished with a sprig of rosemary and a Negroni, each celebrating the award-winning flavor profile of Highclere Castle Gin. The brand debuted in New England markets in 2019, after von Gootkin and Lord and Lady Carnarvon, eighth-generation owners of Highclere Castle, created the recipe from the estate’s botanicals.
