Newport’s Hotel Viking hosted an Aperol Spritz Cocktail Class on Aug. 10. During the demonstration led by Lead Bartender Laura Londono, guests and area participants learned how to make the iconic Aperol Spritz cocktail and tasted three aperitifs: Italian aperitifs Aperol and Campari and American aperitif St. Agrestis Inferno Bitter. The traditional sparkling Italian cocktail is refreshing and a lower-ABV option, offering an aromatic citrusy taste that is both bittersweet and subtly sweet, as well as a zesty orange and herbal profile, topped with bubbles. Through the venue’s weekly Cocktail Club series held during the summer and fall, guests learned how to make a variety of popular cocktails, including Cosmopolitans, Palomas and Sidecars.
