IWSR analysts announced industry highlights from a 2019 year in review. Hard seltzers, or hard sparkling water, were a dominating force, accounting for nearly half (43%) of the entire U.S. ready-to-drink category. Combined, hard seltzers and other canned seltzer-like products drive the total ready-to-drink category, making it the fastest-growing beverage alcohol category in the U.S. Hard seltzer consumption is forecasted to triple by 2023. The global demand for tequila will expand by more than 20% over the next five years as well. Indian whisky dominated the global whisky category; hard coffee made new gains; gin continued its global growth; and rosé remains strong for the foreseeable future.
