Mount Gay Rum sponsored the first offshore fishing tournament in New Shoreham on Block Island on July 21. With 106 teams and 387 anglers, participants and guests enjoyed samples of Mount Gay XO Triple Cask Blend, Black Barrel Double Cask Blend, Eclipse Navy Strength and Eclipse Gold Rum, as well as two cocktails, The Hudson Canyon made with Mount Gay Eclipse Heritage Blend and a Mount Gay Navy Strength Mule, each offered at Champlin’s, Payne’s Dock and The Oar during the tournament. Rémy Cointreau’s Eddie Sherman, Market Manager CT & RI, was stationed at The Narragansett Inn for a key sampling opportunity with tournament-goers. Produced by Mount Gay Distilleries Ltd. of Barbados, the easternmost island of the West Indies, the company dates back to 1703 and is touted as the world’s oldest commercial rum distillery.
