
Eder Bros., Inc., hosted a cocktail competition featuring Fernet-Branca at Olives and Oil in New Haven on June 23. After an informal educational session led by Casey Kern Brick, Marketing Manager, Eder Bros., Inc., nine local bartenders showcased their craft cocktail-making skills for a panel of judges: Dan Rek, Bar Manager, Viron Rondo Osteria; Genna Bestman, Beverage Director, The Owl Shop; and Dave St. Onge, General Manager, Haven Beer Company. The winners were first place: Kris McGowan, Wildcat; second place: Peter Carpenter, Chaplin; third place: Kylie Keeley, Bar 140; and people’s choice: Rob Chavez, Barcelona Wine Bar. Fernet-Branca, a style of amaro originating in Italy, was first formulated in Milan in 1845 and is one of the best-known Italian bitters, with 27 herbs, roots and spices that make up its formula.
