Newport Vineyards in Middletown celebrated apple season and the start of fall with its Cider Festival on Sept. 29. Guests enjoyed several award-winning hard ciders made in house and other seasonal treats including a cider slushy, cider sangria and festival food items as well as its Newport Vineyards wines. The day offered family fun with live music all day, a pie-eating contest, a kids’ candy hunt, lawn games and free axe throwing. Cidermaker and Winemaker George Chelf was at the cider bar pouring samples and Executive Chef Andy Teixeira cooked over an open fire pit, roasting up turkey legs, brisket chili and more.
