The Big E’s Cider & Wine Competitions named Newport Vineyards’ Rhody Coyote as “Best RI Cider” and its Sauvignon Blanc as “Best RI Grown Wine.” Judges come from a variety of backgrounds, including sommeliers, educators, enologists, cidermakers, writers, importers, retailers and industry consultants from throughout the East Coast, with each entry judged on its own merit, not by how it compares to other ciders in the flight. All medal winners are displayed in The Big E’s Farmers Market, which exposes brands to a potential audience of nearly 1.5 million fairgoers who will attend the Sept. 19-24 event, hosted annually in Springfield, Massachusetts. Rhody Coyote is a hard cider crafted with apples from local orchards, pressed and fermented in Newport Vineyards’ cellar by its winemaking team. Its Sauvignon Blanc is dry and crisp, with herbal and citrus notes on the nose and lemon on the palate. The entire wine line is distributed in Rhode Island via MS Walker.
