Olives and Oil Kickoff Party Spotlights Charitable Initiatives

By September 27, 2023Connecticut, Top News

New Haven’s Olives and Oil brought attention to two drinks-related causes on Aug. 22. Attended by gin fans and local industry guests, the event brought awareness to two annual charitable initiatives celebrated in September: National Negroni Week, Sept. 18-24, and Bee’s Knees Week, Sept. 22-Oct. 1. Spearheaded by Vermont’s Caledonia Spirits, Bee’s Knees Week is celebrated across the U.S., where participating on-premise venues create the iconic namesake gin cocktail using Caledonia Spirits’ Barr Hill Gin, which is made with raw northern honey. For each cocktail sold, proceeds benefit initiatives that protect and preserve honeybees. Additionally, Caledonia Spirits was set to donate 10 square feet of bee habitat in Vermont for every photo of a Barr Hill Bee’s Knees cocktail shared on social media. Now in its 11th year, National Negroni Week was showcased in an early kickoff that same night. The international effort, led by Campari and Imbibe magazine, unites Negroni fans in the common goal of raising funds. For a second year, the beneficiary nonprofit partner is Slow Food, a global movement dedicated to sustainability, accessibility, equity and diversity in food and drink. Campari and Barr Hill Gin combined forces in the joint effort, Bee’s Knees Negroni Month, for all of September. Guests enjoyed special event cocktails featuring Barr Hill Gin including the Classic Negroni, made with Barr Hill Gin, sweet vermouth and Campari; the Bee’s Shoulders: Barr Hill Gin, honey, orange blossom, lemon and Génépy; the classic Bee’s Knees cocktail, a blend of Barr Hill Gin, honey and lemon; and the Bee’s Toes: Barr Hill Gin, ginger, lemon, mango and orange bitters.
