Petaluma, California-based Purple Brands announced the acquisition of Mare Island-based Savage & Cooke Distillery from California vintner Dave Phinney. Purple Brands owns Sonoma County, California-based distiller Redwood Empire, which crafts its Pipe Dream Bourbon, Emerald Giant Rye, and limited releases and will use the distillery to expand production of those spirits. The company also produces Raeburn, Avalon, Four Vines and Bex among its wine. Savage & Cooke, founded in 2018 by Phinney, distills, ages, finishes and bottles a range of brown spirits including bourbon, whiskey and rye. Founded by Derek Benham in 2001, Purple Brands is a brand-led business, with an acclaimed portfolio of wine brands along with several burgeoning spirits brands.
