
Johnson Brothers of Rhode Island and Surf Club in Newport teamed up to present Tacos n’ Tequila on May 2 for a pre-Cinco de Mayo celebration featuring Butterfly Cannon Tequila. Taking its name from the annual migration of butterflies from the U.S. to Mexico, the super-premium tequila is 100% agave and produced in Mexico’s most awarded distillery, Destiladora del Valle de Tequila. The Butterfly Cannon Tequila range comes in four expressions: The Winged King Reposado, Blue, Rosa and Silver Cristalino. The Winged King Reposado is a premium 100% agave tequila made in a traditional method using 7- to 8-year-old agave leaves before spending eight months in American oak barrels for unparalleled smoothness. The Blue expression is infused with prickly pear and clementine, with an unusual natural blue color that changes color when a mixer such as a tonic or lime is added. Designed for mixability, the Rosa expression is made by infusing Mexican pink grapefruit peel in silver tequila. The Silver Cristalino expression is a clean, crisp silver tequila, aged for up to 30 days in barrels before being charcoal-filtered. Guests enjoyed cocktail and food pairings, in addition to the tasting.

- Guests enjoyed a guacamole bar with The Bandito Mariposa cocktail, made with Butterfly Cannon Silver Cristalino, mango puree, gochujang, triple sec, lime and agave, accented with Korean barbeque spices.
- A third course of chicken al pastor was paired with the Acapulco Cliff Diver cocktail, made with Butterfly Cannon Blue, coconut water, coconut crème, triple sec and lime, with a blueberry powdered rim.
- A fourth course of quesabirria, slow braised beef, was paired with the Rosa Guadalara cocktail, made with Butterfly Cannon Rosa, fresh cucumber juice, lime and tajin.
- Dessert churros were served with a cocktail, Nube de Coco, The Chocolate Cloud, made with Butterfly Cannon reposado, espresso, fluff, chocolate liqueur and a chocolate graham cracker rim.
