As the new vintage of Beaujolais Nouveau is celebrated worldwide by wine lovers, Westerly’s Weekapaug Inn hosted its celebration locally on Nov. 17. Guests enjoyed the freshly harvested and fruity red wine from the Beaujolais region of France along with a multicourse, prix-fixe dinner centered around a traditional French country cassoulet. Each course was served with Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau wines. Les Vins Georges Duboeuf is a globally recognized merchant, winemaker and producer of Beaujolais, established since 1964 in Romanèche-Thorins in the heart of the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. Deboeuf coined Beaujolais Nouveau Day, as in the 1950s distributors would race each other to be the first to bring their wines to Paris; decades later, Georges Duboeuf began publicizing the race and made the slogan, “Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé!”—“The Beaujolais Nouveau has arrived!”—which turned the wine release into an annual canonic moment for buyers and sellers alike. Guests enjoyed French dishes in pairings of duck leg confit with Duboeuf Domaine des Quatre Vents Fleurie 2020, cassoulet with Georges Duboeuf Jean-Ernest Descombes Morgon Côte du Py 2020 and apple tatin with Château des Capitans Juliénas 2020.
